Islamic Association of Eastern North Carolina seeks to hire Imam. Duties: Leading the five daily prayers; Delivering the Friday sermons each week; Delivering sermons and leading the prayer for Eid holidays; Conduct daily lessons in Quran and Islamic studies; Attend and supervise the funerals for deceased Muslims; participating in inter-faith dialogues; Scheduling and coordinating Ramadan activities; Work with the Islamic Center Committee on fundraising programs. Serving as a reference person for questions pertaining to matters of Islamic law. Helping the Da’wa (preaching) Committee in the various programs for Muslims as well as non-Muslims. Initiating and participating in Islamic Educational Programs that benefit the members of the community including Sunday School, Muslim Youth Group (MYG), bimonthly educational sessions for adults/youth, and new Muslim training programs. Review all education activities conducted, or held in the Islamic Association of Eastern North Carolina. Planning and announcing weekly and monthly educational programs for adult Muslim men and women, including study of the Qur’an, Tajweed (Rules of Recitation), Tafseer (Interpretation), Seerah (biography of Prophet Muhammad), hadith, law, and the Arabic Language; Selecting and Training qualified teachers to participate in the weekly and monthly education programs, Sunday school. Leading, teaching and participating in the weekly and monthly educational programs. Holding weekly office hours to answer questions that Muslims may have; Performing marriages and advising newly-wed couples about the meaning and significance of marriage in Islam; Counseling over disputes in the community, whether between married couple, friends, or community members. Plan and execute community-wide events, especially the celebrations of Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha; Plan and execute community-wide children camps, especially during school holidays; advise the Zakat committee on an as-needed basis if questions arise regarding the collection or distribution of Zakat to needy individuals, mosques and Islamic causes. Must have bachelor’s degree in Islamic studies, comparative religions or any Islamic-related field, 12 years experience as an imam. Jobsite: 1303 Evans Street, Greenville, NC.
